Welcome to the chamber choir Sigtuna Sångensemble!
SSE is a young choir based in Sweden's oldest town. The mix between young and old reflects in our music. With one foot in the rich Swedish choir tradition and the other in contemporary music, we enjoy experimenting and exploring in the world of singing.
The ensemble was started in 2001. A group of friends, all with long past experiences from different choirs, had sung together as an im promptu choir at the traditional Walpurgis celebrations in Sigtuna.
The joy of singing together and the ambition to develop musically led to the idea to start the choir.
From the start SSE has had high artistic ambitions, which in turn has attracted new singers from all over the Stockholm and Uppsala area, all sharing the love for vocal music.
Conductor and creative leader of SSE, since the start, is Greger Fellin.
A rich source of inspiration for the choir has been co-operations with eminent musicians from different genres. The choir's repertoire therefore spans classical and contemporary chamber music as well as symphonic works, jazz and pop
Inspired by the same artistic ambitions and musical dream that created SSE, Greger Fellin and cellist Luisa Garca founded Sigtuna Chamber Ensemble in 2008. This orchestra of exquisite instrumentalists has joined SSE in concert performances of e.g L-E Larson's "Förklädd Gud / God in Disguise". We always look forward to making music with our sibling ensemble!
Sigtuna Sångensemble has also been honored by having music composed especially for SSE and we are proud to include first time performances in many of our concerts. You will find some short samples at this website.
Sigtuna Sångensemble is also available on CD.
